Thomas Kay, a British explorer and weaver, began what would be come the Pendleton Woolen Mills Company in Oregon, USA, in 1863. Pendleton Woolen Mills has grown for over 150 years, but they still focus on Native American inspired woven products, including apparel and blankets.
Today, Pendleton operates six facilities, five in Oregon and one in Nebraska. They control their products from the wool to the finished product. Pendleton has about 1,000 employees as of December, 2020. The woolen mills that Pendleton operates are among the last woolen mills left in the United States.
The Pendleton White Sands collection is inspired by the gypsum and sand dunes of New Mexico, set against a beautiful blue sky. The other Pendleton designs are similarly reminiscent of plateaus and vistas of the American west.
